It’s not neccesary to book in appointment in advance but it’s recommended. People with booked Appointments will have priority.

First, because between the 12 and 20% of the road accidents are due to mechanic problems of vehicles.

Periodic inspections: A part from the exeptions written in the norm, all the vehicles registered in Spain must go through a periodic inspection with the frequency stated in the official regulation and depending on the type and use of the vehicle.

REAL DECRETO 2822/1988 (GENERAL VEHICLE REGLAMENTATION). The 10th article states, Technical inspection of vehicles:

1. The registered vehicles must go through a technical inspection of vehicles at a inspection station authorized by the ministry of industry with the frequency, requirements and exceptions stated in the official regulations written in annex 1. The technical inspection, once checked the identification of the vehicle, will be about the conditions of the vehicle, road safety, environment protection, official registration, vehicle alterations and the validity of the certificates of transportation of dangerous and perishble goods.

In the case of an periodic inspection, you will have to bring:

· The original vehicle registration documents (Log book).
· The original ITV card (or equivalent)
· Sometimes you will also be asked for the vehicle insurance payment, so it’s highly recommended you also bring it to the inspection.

As stated in the RD 920/2017 the frequency of the inspections according to the type and year of your vehicle can be seen in our frequency section.

As stated in the itv stations proceeding manual published by the Ministry, the periodic inspection will check:

  1. Interior condition: seats and seatbelts will be checked according to the official homologation, fastening and overall state.
  2. Exterior condition: the exterior will be checked for corrosion or/and rusting, the proper functioning of windshields and the mechanisms of doors and mirrors.
  3. Engine and transmission: the state of: engine, battery, fuel tank, exhaust system, transmission and oil and fuel leaks.
  4. Identification of the vehicle: brand, model, vehicle identification number and plate must match with the original documents presented.
  5. Tires, Axles and suspension systems: state of axles and tires will be checked. We will also verify if the model of the tires are authorized according to official homologation.
  6. Steering system: possible excess of space in the steering wheel, Steering shaft, Steering column assembly, Steering box, etc. will be checked.
  7. Brakes: using a “brake-taster” machine we will test the efficiency, unbalance and that the brakes work above the minimum required.
  8. Emissions: we’ll check the level of emissions and that they stay below the requirements according to the manufacturing date of the vehicle and the type of fuel it uses.
  9. Lighting: lighting and signaling mechanisms must be authorized according to official homologation, with the authorized number of lights and all of them working properly.
  10. Others: we’ll check if there are recent alterations and if they are properly authorized according to the official homologation.

In case of a positive inspection you will get:

· Inspection file.

· ITV Card, with the expiration date of the next inspection.

· A inspection sticker that must visible in the top right of your vehicle’s window. Not having the sticker could result in a fine.

The ITV will give you a period of 2 months to repair the vehicle. You can only travel with your car to the repair shop and back to the inspection station.

Yes, according to RD 920/2017. You must bear in mind that 50% of the established rate will be billed, according to DGI Resolutions of 05/25/2018 and 06/08/2018.

Remember that although the validation sticker shows an entire month as the deadline for the next inspection, you will need to check the expiration date in the ITV Card of your vehicle.
